    Zelasko was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in December of 2007. After her father Stanley, died at the age of 71 due to a heart attack in his home in Escondido, she said:

    “My father died on my son Trevor’s first day of kindergarten,”

    She further elaborated saying;

    “When I finally did answer it, it was my brother telling me what happened. I screamed, the kind of scream that comes from your gut, and blew out my voice.”

    She was assigned to host Fox’s on-site pregame show; also as a secondary reporter on Fox’s Cotton Bowl Classic and Orange Bowl. After the hosting, she went for her checkup where she met Dr. Robert Andrews, a throat surgeon at St. John’s Health Center. Later on, he discovered that it was cancer nonetheless, and the operation was done on Jan 11 2008 in the middle of February Zelasko got a heavy dose of iodine radiation to treat cancer.

    However, the treatment wasn’t a smooth ride for Zelasko as she said:

    “I was in quarantine for 48 hours,” she said. “They say radiation, compared to chemo, is the lesser of two evils. But I felt like they had taken a blow torch to me. It knocked me for a loop.”
