    Issa Kuren Edwards who goes by the stage name Issa Pointer is an American singer. She is one of the members of the group The Pointer Sister. Her desire for singing started with her family as both of her parents were singers or involved in vocal groups.

    Her father Dennis Edwards was an American soul and R&B singer best known as the frontman in the band The Temptations. Her mother is an American singer-songwriter who is best known as the eldest member of the American family vocal group The Pointer Sisters.

    As a child, Issa soon got interested in music since she often traveled with her mother’s band. In fact, at just five years of age, Issa sang Amazing Grace for the entire congregation at the Marin City Church of God’s Easter service. Also, at the age of 12, she had already made her music debut on the album Right Rhythm, on which she collaborated with her mother.

    Talking about her education, she has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She decided to major in Criminal Justice instead of music.

    Issa Pointer’s Mother Ruth Pointer Had Four Failed Marriages

    Ruth and marriage seem to be opposite poles. She had four failed marriages including one with Issa’s father Dennis Edwards. Edwards died on February 1, 2018, two days before his 75th birthday, in an Illinois hospital. Prior to his death, he had been battling meningitis.

    Her first husband was Larry Woods, whom she married on August 9, 1964. They have a daughter and a son. Ruth and Woods separated in 1970. Carl Abram was her second husband from November 7, 1973, to November 7, 1975.

    In 1984, Pointer married noted bassist Don Boyette, divorcing in 1988.

    Pointer sister member Ruth is now married to her fifth husband, Michael Sayles, in the yard of her Malibu, California home in 1990, and had twins at the age of 47. Ruth resides in Hopedale, Massachusetts, with her husband Michael.

    Issa’s Aunt June Struggled With Drug Addiction

    Well, Issa Pointer’s aunt June Pointer, the group’s youngest sister, struggled with drug addiction for much of her career, leaving the group in April 2004 before dying of cancer in April 2006 at the age of 52. After the death of June, Issa replaced her as the permanent member of the group which continued to the later stage of her journey.

    Ruth’s daughter Issa began her musical career while on tour with the Pointer Sisters during their 1985 tour. However, she officially joined the girl group in August 2002 after June left the band because of health issues.

    It was back when Issa has relocated to Napa, California, and didn’t have any job when her mom offered her a place in the band. She also became part of an extraordinary event in Europe called Night of the Proms after June was not able to attend the event.

    She later worked on some tracks with the group on various albums.

    Anita, Ruth, Issa, and Ruth’s granddaughter Sadako Pointer were members of the group between 2009 and 2015. While all four ladies remained in the ensemble, they mostly performed as a trio, with the lineup changing as needed.
